Maybelline Fit Me Dewy Foundation Review

I’ve been struggling with drier skin lately, so I’ve opted for dewy, more hydrating foundations instead of the usual matte ones. My hormones took a serious turn after I had kids and after having oily skin for 15 years it’s done a full 360 and gone dry.

Maybelline’s Fit Me Foundation Hydrate+Smooth looked like a good drugstore option to try and while I’ve had to play around with it a bit, it worked out quite well.

Maybelline Fit Me Dewy Foundation Claims…

… Fit Me Hydrate + Smooth is a dewy foundation formulated to hydrate and smooth skin texture for an overall luminous finish. The formula includes SPF 18 for sun protection and comes in 16 shades (mainly light to medium tones).

Meant for dry to normal skin types, Fit Me Hydrate + Smooth retails for $10.99CAD and comes in a glass bottle without a pump (why aren’t foundation pumps mandatory?). It’s fragrance free.

Application and Coverage

I chose the lightest shade in this range – #110 Porcelain. Fit Me Hydrate + Smooth goes on equally well with a foundation brush or a damp makeup sponge. I personally preferred the sponge application, because I find buffing it in with a brush can kick up any dry patches on my skin. This foundation provides medium coverage that is slightly buildable.

I usually run to full coverage foundations, but using Fit Me made me realize that I don’t really need that much coverage any more. Fit Me Hydrate blends out really nicely and I love that the lightweight formula means I can add more to certain areas of my face without it looking heavy or cakey; my Estee Lauder Double Wear would never have allowed for this. Fit Me Hydrate + Smooth feels slightly tacky after application, but I always use a setting powder, so this is a non-issue for me.

Finish and Longevity

Fit Me Hydrate + Smooth gives my skin a soft, natural looking finish, although I was hoping it would be a bit dewier. I found I had to make sure my skin was properly moisturized first when applying this foundation, otherwise it would bring out some of my pores and texture. I would also finish it off with a few spritzes of my Thayers Witch Hazel Rose Petal Toner to give my skin a bit more dew.

After setting this foundation lightly with powder, it lasted throughout the day quite well.

The Verdict?

My skin was super dry when I was testing out this foundation, so the fact that it kept my skin hydrated all day and didn’t cling to dry patches was really my primary focus in a foundation at that time. However, I wish it did more to hide imperfections and texture issues without me having to add additional products to it.

While Fit Me Hydrate + Smooth foundation didn’t make my skin luminous like I had hoped, I am happy that I have a natural-looking foundation in my collection that doesn’t make my skin look cakey or dry. If you have dry to normal skin, minimal texture issues and are looking for a lightweight, medium coverage foundation that doesn’t highlight dry patches, Maybelline Fit Me Hydrate +Smooth might just be what you’re after.

  1. Its strange that I have not yet tried this foundation in spite of great reviews everywhere. I don’t know maybe because I mostly use CC creams and BB creams as I like light to medium coverage. I use heavy coverage foundations on rare occasions. 🙂 I should try.

  2. I do like this foundation but I do have to wear it with a good primer. I don’t mind not having the dewy look because I always set my face with powder. I hate the tacky feeling of foundation. Great review!
