My review of the Reina Del Caribe Vol. 1 eyeshadow palette is waaaay overdue. I received this palette last June in my Boxycharm box and loved it immediately!
But as usual, life got in the way and my planned review fell by the wayside. Soon it was autumn and being as this palette is more suited to the summer, this post got put on hold…
But Reina del Caribe is an AMAZING palette and the vibrant shades are perfect for summer, so I had to make sure to get this post up before the dark, deep colours of fall take over.
What Is Reina Del Caribe Vol. 1?
The Reina del Caribe Vol. 1 palette is made up of 8 shadows (2 stunning shimmers, 2 gorgeous metallics and 4 velvet mattes) that were inspired by the beauty and culture of Cuba.
This Latina-run, indie makeup brand included the following shade descriptions for this palette:
-La Costa – (High shine shimmer) Pearly champagne with pink highlights
-El Malecon – (Extreme high shine metallic) True gold with rich olive undertones.
-Varadero – (Extreme high shine metallic) Stunning deep royal blue/teal.
-Celia – (High shine shimmer) Vivid turquoise with gold reflects
-Coco-Taxi – (Velvet matte) Yellow toned bright orange.
-Tropico – (Velvet Matte) Intense burnt orange.
-Guantanamera – (Velvet Matte) Deep raspberry/burgundy
-Cafecito – (Velvet Matte) Deep Coffee
The palette is cruelty free, gluten free and mineral oil free and retails for $28USD here. It comes in simple cardboard packaging with no mirror.
Why You Need It
The pigment and formula of the shadows in this palette are unreal, especially given the price point.
The mattes are super soft and blend with ease – no patchiness! – while the shimmers are creamy and intense and can be instantly intensified by wetting your shadow brush (the palette has a tear drop logo beside the names of the shimmers that they recommend applying wet).
The shadows are super long lasting on the lids and have survived through heavy heat and humidity without losing their lustre even the tiniest bit on me (applied on top of an eyeshadow primer that is – I have super oily lids!).

While the vibrant shades might put some people off, I love that they pushed me out of my comfort zone and made me venture into shades that I never thought I could wear.
The brand has also released a Vol. 2 palette (pic below), which I would love to order if it wasn’t for the flat rate shipping fees and duties that are added on for Canadian residents – blast!
