Indeed Labs Bakuchiol Reface Pads Review; A Retinol Alternative

Regular B&P readers will know just how in love I am with my retinol, but bakuchiol is the new skin care ingredient in town that claims to provide all the benefits of retinol without the irritation.

Bakuchiol is taking the skin care world by storm with these wild claims of being “the gentle retinol” and Indeed Labs has harnessed the skin-perfecting power of this ingredient in these convenient Bakuchiol Reface Pads.

What Are The Benefits Of Bakuchiol?

Bakuchiol – a plant-based retinol alternative – promises to do all the things that retinol can do with minimal to no irritation.

Basically, Indeed Labs claims Bakuchiol can promote smoother, brighter skin while:

  • reducing fine lines
  • promoting cell turnover
  • improving skin elasticity
  • fighting acne and reducing acne scarring
  • improving skin tone
  • reducing hyper-pigmentation
  • improving barrier function and reducing water loss
  • reducing inflammation

What Ingredients Are In The Bakuchiol Reface Pads?

Along with Systenol A, a high performing retinol alternative, the Bakuchiol Reface Pads are formulated with niacinamide to help reduce sebum (oil) production and improve skin texture.

Allantoin promotes skin hydration and helps to soothe skin and Symsave H is an anti-oxidant with skin soothing properties. Being plant-based, Bakuchiol itself is a vegan ingredient. The pads are also colourant, paraben and fragrance free and come in a handy, easy-to-travel-with container for skin care lovers on the go.

How To Use Bakuchiol In Your Routine & Who Can Use Bakuchiol (everyone!)

The great thing about Bakuchiol is that it isn’t photo-sensitive like retinol or acid exfoliators – this means you can swipe a pad across your face in the morning without worrying about your skin being more sensitive to the sun (although you should always wear SPF when going out anyways, right?).

It’s also a great option for people who are pregnant/breastfeeding and banned from retinol use (a period in my life I refer to as the dark days of skin care), as well as those who have sensitive skin or suffer from irritation when using retinol.

Acne sufferers and those of you with oily skin can also reap the benefits of using Bakuchiol, as it has anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory properties that have been found to reduce acne.

Bakuchiol is also gentle enough that it can be used in conjunction with retinol and other treatments in your skin care routine and it can be used up to twice daily.

I’ve tried both Bakuchiol and retinol together on many nights while testing these pads out and haven’t had any irritation myself, although my skin is pretty resilient to whatever I throw at it, like rhinoceros skin.

How I Use Bakuchiol Reface & My Results

I’ve been using the Bakuchiol Reface Pads almost every night for the last two weeks after cleansing and in place of my regular exfoliating toners. I then carry on with my skin care routine as usual, often adding retinol into the mix as well.

The pads themselves are quilted and super gentle on the skin (even softer than my beloved Nip+Fab Glycolic Extreme Pads). They’re pre-soaked with a good amount of product, meaning I can do my entire face, neck and chest using both sides of the pad.

The pads are fragrance free, but they do have a funky chemical-like smell to them – nothing gross though. I haven’t experienced any tingling, tightness, dryness or redness after using Bakuchiol Reface, although I should disclose that my skin is non-sensitive and I’m an experienced retinol user.

My skin feels super soft the next morning after using these pads and it’s become smoother as well. So far I haven’t noticed that my pore size has changed, but I hope to see more results as I get to the end of the tub – fingers crossed! There’s also no information as to how quickly Bakuchiol works in comparison to retinol. Retinols can take up to three months of regular use to see full benefits, but does Bakuchiol work at the same pace? Unknown.

If you have sensitive skin, issues using retinol, are pregnant or breastfeeding or suffer from acne, you might want to give the Bakuchiol Reface Pads a go.

You get 30 pads for $17.99CAD and hopefully a better complexion by the end of the tub!
