How To Use Primer Oil ftg. Beauty Creations

Never in my wildest dreams did I think I would ever be able to use a primer oil, but sometimes life throws you a curve ball and unexpected things happen, right?

Since my skin isn’t the slippery oil slick that it used to be, I’ve been on the hunt for hydrating products that help give it a bit of glow. I decided on the Beauty Creations Primer Oil while doing some online shopping on Amazon one night and it definitely added some glow to my skin. Find out what a primer oil is, how to use it and why you might want to add one to your shopping list (I include a bunch of primer oils to browse at the bottom of the post!)

What Is A Primer Oil?

Primer oils are lightweight facial oils designed to provide skin with hydration needed to prep skin for foundation application. The oil of the primer instantly sinks into your skin and hydrates. It acts very much like a dry oil that doesn’t leave a heavy residue on the skin.

The oil can also be added directly into foundation to thin out the formula or make it more dewy when applied.

What Does The Beauty Creations Primer Oil Do?

This oil cost me about $16CAD on Amazon (here) and boasts a non-greasy, vitamin enriched formula meant to hydrate the skin. Beauty Creations claims it is:

“An ultra-light, fast absorbing face oil that doubles as primer to prep skin for flawless makeup application. It gives you a radiant, youthful look with a dewy finish.”

Unfortunately, the brand doesn’t share on the website just which vitamins are enriching this primer oil (so I’ll assume it’s Vitamin E, just for fun). The oil comes in a glass bottle with a dropper, which works quite well I might add, to dispense the product. Just testing out the clear, runny oil on the back of my hand, it absorbed quickly and is what I would describe as a dry oil that leaves no greasy residue behind. It has a light scent to it that I enjoy as well.

Makeup Tip: Primer oils can be applied directly to the skin, mixed in with your moisturizer or mixed directly into your foundation.

How To Use Primer Oil

I like to mix 1-2 drops of the Beauty Creations primer oil with my foundation (which is currently L’Oreal’s Infallible Pro-Glow). Using the end of an eye shadow brush, I mix the foundation and primer oil together before applying it to my face with my Real Techniques sponge. Pro-Glow is a very lightweight foundation that blends out really well, but the addition of the oil makes it sooo much more lightweight, blendable and dewy! This magical mixture doesn’t leave me feeling slimy or greasy in any way and it gives my skin the HEALTHIEST GLOW EVER!

I haven’t been able to use my Estee Lauder Double Wear foundation for the longest time, since my skin is no longer as oily, but I’m planning to test out this primer oil in my Double Wear to see if it will help thin out the heavy, matte formula so I can finish off this foundation.

If you’re looking to get a fresh, dewy look this spring/summer, a primer oil might be just what you need! Beauty Creations also has a “Glow” hydrating primer oil on their site here.
