Fall is forever my favourite season and I can’t wait to start my turtleneck shopping!
I haven’t really updated my fall/winter wardrobe since I had kids, so I thought I would do my fall shopping along with you in this post, because I’m a multi-tasker at heart.
Fall is a great season for fashion because there are so many prints, patterns, colours and textures that are perfect for the cooler autumn weather and bold seasonal colours.
So get out your shopping list and increase your credit limit, because we’re about to add some must-have fall wardrobe staples into your life!

1. Leather or Faux Leather
I’m always happier when I bring down my leather jackets and give them a good dusting off before the fall season starts.
Good leather lasts forever and will never go out of style. While pricey, leather is a great wardrobe investment, which is my excuse to find a great curve-hugging leather midi skirt for my wardrobe or a new leather handbag to match my leather boots.
On a tight budget or hate real leather? Don’t panic – there are a ton of great faux leather options out there as well.

2. Plaid, Stripes & Houndstooth
You know sweaters are my jam in the fall, so I’m on the lookout for new ones that incorporate several fall colours in either plaid, houndstooth or striped patterns.
Plaid and stripes also looks amazing on scarves, blazers, pants, cardigans and skirts so there are a ton of ways to incorporate this fall trend into your closet if head-to-toe plaid isn’t in your comfort zone.

3. Suede
I have to admit, I love suede but I’m always afraid to put on my brown suede jacket and then walk out into a rain storm.
But suede is a gorgeous texture for fall and there are so many suede options out there that it’s hard to hide behind the “it’s raining” excuse all the time.
Suede is a little pricier, but like leather, it’s one of those staples that can last forever and never go out of style. If you’re looking for a more budget friendly option, there are a lot of great looking faux suede pieces available too!
4. Ankle Booties
Looking for another excuse to buy more shoes? Just tell your significant other that it’s fall and ankle booties are a must have right now!
Thin or chunky, neutral or jewel toned, there are so many options out there for every shoe lover and they’re a great way to add a pop of colour to your outfit.
5. Leopard or Animal Print
Whenever I wear any type of spotted print, I can’t help but feel a little bit like Cruella De Vil, but in a good way!
I love little pops of leopard print in my shoes or accessories, but if you can wear head-to-toe animal print, then by all means go for it!

6. Turtlenecks
You know I couldn’t create a fall fashion staples post without some beloved turtlenecks thrown in.
Turtlenecks are probably my favourite cold weather wardrobe staple and I can’t resist pairing one with a nice leather jacket and jeans on a casual work Friday.
They’re also a great way to incorporate bold fall colours, textures and prints! Don’t limit yourself to just sweater turtlenecks either; they come in the dress and bodysuit variety too.
7. Knee High Boots/Riding Boots
Honestly, it’s been a while since I’ve bought a nice pair of tall boots, so browsing all the leather, suede and cloth varieties was great for giving me some fall boot ideas to keep my tootsies warm this year.
The right pair of knee boots is also great for elongating the leg and would look awesome under a cable-knit sweater dress!

8. Knits
I forever love anything knit in the fall. Besides the obvious warmth factor, knits are a great way to incorporate different textures into your wardrobe. If you have a drafty office like mine, a great knit poncho or cardigan is a must have for your cubicle.
I’m also in the market for a new fitted sweater dress to wear over tights and maybe a cable-knit top or two for my closet this year. And don’t forget a thick, oversized scarf!
9. Dark Florals
Florals are gorgeous all year round, but dark florals can really bring a beautiful print to life. So find a way to work those dark florals into your tops, shoes, blazers, scarves and dresses this autumn.
