If you’re looking for a lightweight, natural foundation that’s easy to blend and long wear, you’ve found the right place! I review the Makeup Forever HD Skin Undetectable Longwear Foundation and it’s become my new favourite.
As part of the 40+ crowd, I find I can no longer wear those thicker, heavier foundations that used to get me by in the past. While I keep a rigorous skin care routine, there are still pesky fine lines and dehydrated areas of my face that now need a little more TLC and a little less of a matte finish.
I decided to grab the smaller bottle of the MUFE HD Skin foundation during a Sephora order and I’ve come to reach for this foundation more and more.
It truly has a gorgeous skin-like finish and feels so light on the skin while providing the coverage I need that it’s surpassed my other foundations during the last year.

Makeup Forever HD Skin Foundation Brand Claims
Makeup Forever HD Skin Foundation claims that it is “An undetectable liquid foundation with a clean formula that blurs and covers imperfections for 24 hours, powered by a micro-skin system that syncs with the skin for true-to-skin finish.”
HD Skin is MUFE’s “new and improved” formulation of their Ultra HD foundation made with technology to help it appear undetectable on the skin in any lighting; a bold claim for any foundation, don’t you think? HD Skin also claims to blur skin imperfections and promises to blend easily for medium to full coverage that will never cake up or settle into fine lines while remaining waterproof and sweatproof.
Sephora indicates that this foundation is best suited for Oily, Normal and Combination skin types.

Makeup Forever HD Skin Foundation Formulation and Shades
MUFE HD Skin is vegan, non-comedogenic and comes in more sustainable packaging than its predecessor. It comes in 40 different shades, with a range of shades covering the super pale to very dark skin tones for their full size bottle 30mL bottle (I fall into the super pale, neutral category).
Unfortunately, their smaller 12mL bottle only comes in six shades that are light to medium in colour, so deeper skin tones would have to purchase the full size product.
MUFE HD SKIN retails for $61CAD (30mL) and $30CAD (12mL).
My Skin Type: For reference, my skin type is mature and slightly oily, no acne but some redness depending on the season.
Makeup Forever HD Skin Foundation Coverage, Blendability, Application
Coverage: This foundation provides medium coverage in one thin application, with the ability to build up coverage by applying another thin layer on top once the first layer dries. It’s super lightweight – probably the most lightweight foundation I’ve ever tried – which makes building up coverage without caking much easier.
I should be clear that I don’t suffer from blemishes or excess redness, so I don’t have many imperfections that require additional coverage.
Blendability: This foundation is super lightweight and blends like a dream, making it perfect for skin types prone to caking or mature skin types that have fine lines or texture issues that are highlighted by heavier foundations.
It’s important to remember that the blendability of a foundation will also be impacted by how you have prepped your skin before applying it; if applied on very dry skin, blending out any foundation will always be much harder.
Tip: If you have dry skin and struggle with foundation application that looks cakey or heavy, try applying a light layer of facial oil to your skin or dry spots on top of your moisturizer before applying foundation to make it more blendable and reduce the risk of caking.
You can also apply a drop of facial oil into the foundation and mix it together on a makeup palette before applying to increase blendability.
Application: This foundation can be applied with a damp makeup sponge, a foundation brush or your fingers. Personally, I love the blend I get using a damp makeup sponge. I always apply it in sections so it doesn’t dry down too much in one spot and get cakey.

Finish, Longevity, Blurring Power
Finish: This foundation has a beautiful skin-like finish that isn’t too radiant or too matte. Again, because of the lightweight formula, I find I have little issues with caking or excess build up.
Longevity: I wear Makeup Forever HD skin foundation review to work which is at least 10 hours of wear time and it doesn’t budge. However, I always set my foundation with a setting powder to make it last longer and provide a more air-brushed finish, so that impacts my personal wear time.
If you have oily skin, I would recommend using a mattifying primer to keep this foundation in check and not get too shiny or use very lightweight moisturizers; at first, I found this foundation to be a little on the shiny side on my if I didn’t use a very lightweight moisturizer and wait long enough for my moisturizer and sunscreen to fully absorb into my skin and dry down. I also recommend setting your foundation with powder to reduce shine and boost longevity, whether using this or any foundation.
Blurring Power: As someone with 40+ skin (I’ll be 43 this year) I love how this foundation easily blends into my skin and doesn’t accentuate the fine lines around my eyes or the deeper lines in my forehead. Personally, getting older for my skin means I really focus a lot on prepping and caring for my skin with a lot of lightweight foundation to combat dehydration and find that foundations that fall on the matte side of the foundation spectrum make my skin look super dull and tired.
I also have enlarged pores on my cheeks and this foundation doesn’t bring those out and does have a blurring effect.
Overall, I got on well with this foundation and reach for it often, especially in the warmer months when lighter makeup works best for me.
Tip: Always apply small amounts of foundation in sections of your face to avoid excess build-up and caking. Add more as needed.
