We purchased our house back in May 2011. From the moment we saw it, we loved it, but knew we would be renovating everything in it (we’re nuts, I know!).
The remodel of my powder room was just one of several renovations taking place on the main floor and because my husband does most of the work on his own, it took 5 years before it was finished (yes, I had no main floor washroom for 5 years – you read that right). ..
It was a rough go, but all good things come to those who wait….and wait…because I was finally able to get all the decor bits and pieces together.
From the Ellie Cashman dark floral wallpaper that I had saved on my Pinterest board oh so many years ago, to the gold accents and mirrored vanity with the marble top, every piece of the puzzle finally came into place, and I’ll be sharing each and every piece in this post!

The Before
My powder room before photo is quite shocking for me to look at now – I almost forgot how hideous it was.
It came with ugly red/orange wood floors, the most basic pedestal sink and a cheap mirror that now lives somewhere in my basement because my husband never throws anything away. I think from the before you can see why I was desperate to fix things up in this powder room:
The After ftg. Ellie Cashman Dark Floral Wallpaper
After browsing tons of powder room photos on Pinterest for years, I knew that my renovated powder room would have:
-gold fixtures
-bold floral wallpaper
-a fabulous Venetian mirror
-a mirrored vanity
It was so amazing to see all the pieces I had envisioned for so long finally fall into place! Below are all the after pics of the powder room update.

The inspiration to my powder update was the Ellie Cashman dark floral wallpaper that I had found on Pinterest many years ago. I loved the large, bold print and dark background that made everything pop and this was the first decor decision that I made for this room.
The Ellie Cashman wallpaper we went with is called “Dark Floral” and it comes in both fleece and vinyl options; we chose the vinyl option, which was pricier, but more durable to withstand all the splashing that goes on in a bathroom. Each vinyl sheet was just over four feet wide, which meant less visible seams on the walls too.
The wallpaper butts up against new crown moulding installed on the ceilings and new, larger baseboards installed on the newly tiled floors. The floors we went with in the powder room and all over most of the main floor are dark brown, wood-look tiles for easy cleaning and a more modern look. The exact ones I used are no longer available but I have linked to similar tiles for you to consider.
The mirrored vanity we selected came with a cream, marble top from Decorating Details in Mississauga, Ontario. If you live nearby, they have a great selection of vanities to choose from.
The original knobs that came with the vanity were plain acrylic knobs that were super boring, so I ordered these gorgeous mother of pearl knobs from Etsy to replace the originals and really add some character to the doors.
I topped off the vanity with Moen’s Voss Brushed Gold Two-Handle High Arc Bathroom Faucet along with the matching brushed gold toilet tank lever and towel bar from the Voss collection.
I found a fabulous small agate stone tray for the vanity top at Winner’s and immediately stashed it in my shopping cart; it was only $30 or so and I couldn’t believe I found such a nice piece.
On the right side of the vanity, I used a resin coaster that I purchased from @ollie.yyc on Instagram to place my hand soap on. The Venetian mirror was purchase several years ago from Sears.ca, which has sadly closed now, but there is a similar mirror on Wayfair right now. The five-light brushed gold light fixture is from Hudson Valley’s Longmont collection.
The toilet is a comfort height toilet from the Kohler Memoirs range and has a nice soft close lid. I definitely had to dress up the toilet tray, so I added a couple scented Voluspa candles from Sephora, a small piece of rough quartz and a green candle (both from Winners) and a small Chanel book that I found on Amazon.
On the floor, I feature a large apothecary jar filled with gold mosaic decorative balls from Amazon and gold wastebasket made by Umbra and also purchased from Amazon. We didn’t want to poke holes in the wallpaper to hold the toilet paper, so I found this brushed gold toilet paper stand that is functional and good looking.
