Winter Skin Care: What’s New In My Routine

Winter has come early here in Toronto! As soon as the first cool winds blew in, my skin instantly become drier. I’m now getting very little oil output during the day and I’m seeing a bit of flakiness on my drier areas (nose, lips) so I’ve been leaning on my gentler hydrating cleansers and focusing even more on hydration to keep things moisturized.

While I have TONS of skin care products in my collection to get through, I’ve added a few new items into the mix that I’ve been using through fall into winter and definitely had to share with you ASAP.

Cosrx Two In One Poreless Power Liquid

As soon as I heard about the release of this “glass-skin” promising Cosrx toner, I knew I had to have it. I had been holding off buying it because I had so many other toners that I wanted to get through first and the original price upon release was super inflated on Amazon. However, I finally added it the Poreless Power Liquid to my cart when I noticed more and more blackheads popping up on my nose and upper cheeks.

Poreless Power Liquid features Willow Bark Water and betaine salicylate (BHA) to deep clean pores and control oil. Similar to my beloved Cosrx Blackhead Power Liquid, this poreless version has zero tingling, absorbs quickly with no residue and leaves my skin feeling soft and hydrated, despite the acid content. I squirt one pump of this toner into my hands and pat it on my face after cleansing each morning. The effect? Poreless Power has made my blackheads substantially decrease in number while making my skin feel softer and look smoother.

Overall, I’m in love with this stuff and would recommend it to anyone looking for a gentle, but effective pore-cleaner. The Poreless Power Liquid is also cruelty free, vegan and has no fragrance.

Cosrx Hyaluronic Acid Intensive Cream

While I love Cosrx toners, this is the first moisturizer I’ve tried from the brand – and I’ll definitely be trying out more. This cruelty-free moisturizer has the most lovely, gooey texture and is made to help skin retain moisture. Made with 3000ppm of hyaluronic acid, it boasts long-lasting hydration without heaviness and can be used as a moisturizer or an overnight sleeping pack.

The cream doesn’t fully absorb into the skin; instead, it leaves a soft layer on top of the skin, which I love in my winter creams, as I feel this protects my skin and locks in moisture overnight. You can see the texture of this cream in all its gooey glory in the video below.

e.l.f. Cosmetics Hydrating Water Essence

The only non-Korean product in my winter skin care update – this essence has such an amazing hydrating effect on my skin and I like it way more than I expected to.

It glides on easily and is made with:

  • glycerin (a humectant that attracts and retains moisture)
  • niacinamide (to control oil and reduce pore size)
  • sodium hyaluronate (retains moisture)
  • Coconut Water
  • Coffee Arabica Extract (source of vitamin E, fatty acids and sterols)

I’ve been using this essence each morning and night after applying my exfoliating toner and it soothes and replenishes my skin instantly! e.l.f.’s Hydrating Water Essence is cruelty free, vegan and free from parabens and phthalates and sulfates too.

Purito Centella Green Level Buffet Serum (gifted)

This Centella Green Level Buffet serum from Purito has been a welcome product in my winter skin care routine. It contains 49% Centella Asiatica to promote collagen synthesis while soothing skin with its natural anti-inflammatory properties. Quickly becoming a beloved skin care ingredient for me, Centella Asiatica – also referred to as “cica” in skin care circles – is well known for its ability to soothe and calm red or inflamed skin; this means that if you suffer from burns, acne, eczema, redness or rosacea, Centella Asiatica infused products or Cica creams should be on your shopping list as of yesterday.

The serum itself is a clear gel that feels wonderful on my skin. While I haven’t been dealing with redness for a while now, I do love how soothing and hydrating this serum feels, especially after a facial peel or scrub session. The Buffet serum also contains Adenosine, which is supposed to reduce the look of fine lines and wrinkles – a skin care feature I’m never opposed to.

Purito is a Korean brand dedicated to using clean, natural ingredients in its skin care products and has received EWG Green Level certification, so you can rest assured that this serum is free from mineral oils, PEG, ethanol, artificial fragrances, silicones, triclosan, petrolatum, parabens and polyproprene glycol. It’s also vegan and cruelty free and the brand always uses environmentally friendly recycled paper packaging for its products.

Purito From Green Cleansing Oil (gifted)

I reviewed this Korean oil cleanser in full here, but just know that it is a 100% clean, fragrance free, cruelty free, vegan facial cleanser that is super gentle, but effective. This cleansing oil is made with 5 natural oils (olive, sunflower, jojoba, sweet almond and grapeseed oils), rinses away easily and leaves my skin soooo soft and is the most amazing cleanser for dry, sensitive or winter-affected skin – ‘nuf said.

Mizon Snail Repair Eye Cream

This Korean eye cream includes 80% snail secretion filtrate and a host of other great ingredients to keep my eye area moisturized, nourished, brightened, smoothed and de-puffed. Snail mucin is claimed to repair and strengthen skin, while EGF (Epidermic Growth Factor) maintains skin health. The inclusion of Adenosine promises to reduce the look of fine lines and wrinkles, while niacinamide works to brighten the eye area. The cream itself has a silky soft, lightweight texture that absorbs quickly and the large 1 oz. jar means this eye cream will last forever, which I have no qualms with.
