If you’re getting married soon, you should add “what skin care mistakes to avoid before your wedding” to your wedding prep list.
Having flawless, glowing skin on her wedding day is every bride’s dream, right?
Not only does skin have a natural glow and dewiness when it’s healthy, but makeup goes on more smoothly and there’s less need to add products to conceal and hide imperfections.
Clear, healthy skin is also important if you’re going for that super popular no makeup, makeup look for your wedding because it requires a lower coverage foundation or BB cream to let your natural skin peek through.
Unfortunately, there are a lot of things you can do that could sabotage your skin before the big event without even knowing it (like trying squeeze a pimple the day before – big no no!).
Bad habits have no place in your wedding prep schedule, especially when they negatively impact your bridal glow!
Here are the skin care mistakes you need to avoid before your wedding the week before you walk down the aisle.

1. No Alcohol
Yes, you read that correctly, no alcohol a week before the wedding (a buzzkill, I know). If you and your bridesmaids have some hen party ideas planned that involve alcoholic beverages, make sure you have your fun at least two weeks before the wedding.
Why? Alcohol can disrupt your digestive system and cause redness and dehydration in your skin, so focus on drinking a lot of water instead to stay hydrated. Remember, you can drink all you want on your wedding night, no one is going to stop you!

2. No New Skin Care Products or Treatments
Trying a trendy new skin care product or treatment like chemical peels, laser treatments or Botox a week before your wedding is a big fat NO. You don’t know how your skin is going to react to something new or just how much recovery time your skin will need afterwards.
I learned this lesson the hard way when I decided to try out a new hair dye and had a bad allergic reaction to it; it wasn’t pretty. Instead, focus on developing a great skin care routine well in advance of your special day so you can kick all your skin care woes in the bud early on. Keep your new product/treatment testing to at least one month before the big day.

3. An Unknown Skin Care Mistake To Avoid Before Your Wedding? No Junk Food!
Anything and everything you eat can have an affect on your skin, so consider avoiding foods that are greasy or oily in nature (unless it’s a good oil!). In addition, be sure to avoid foods that can trigger blemishes and breakouts, no matter how tempting they may be during times of stress.
Instead, try to consume foods that are hydrating and anti-inflammatory for your skin, like cucumbers, grapefruit and watermelon. Add more fruits and green veggies to your diet and again, make sure you consume at least three litres of water everyday to keep yourself hydrated. Your skin craves hydration!

4. Get Your Beauty Rest
Long hours of wedding planning can lead to quite a few nights burning the midnight oil. But the last thing you want before your big day are under-eye bags or tired looking skin.
Make sure you are getting enough sleep and sticking to your regular sleeping schedule. Remember, foundation and concealer can only cover up so much! But if you do need a little help, try out these awesome under-eye pads for instant de-puffing action.

5. Squeezing Pimples Is A Huge Skin Care Mistake To Avoid Before Your Wedding!
I know it’s tempting, but squeezing a pimple a day or two before your wedding could leave a large red mark on your skin and allow more bacteria into the pimple that could make it get even bigger! Instead, try rubbing an exfoliating liquid on the pimple to naturally exfoliate it and bring it down. Or you could try applying a acne/pimple patch to the pimple to shrink it more quickly.
If your pimple is super full and you just can’t bear seeing it, please ensure you squeeze it properly: wash your hands and face, apply gentle pressure down and inwards when squeezing the pimple and use tissue on your fingers to avoid scratching the area with your nails and making things worse. If the pimple is ready to be popped, it will empty easily with gentle pressure. Clean the area and apply a light weight moisturizer to seal the opening.
6. Don’t Forget The Body Care
If you’re anything like me, you get so wrapped up worrying about the skin on your face that you neglect what’s going on with the skin on the rest of your body.
Moisturize and hydrate the areas you’ll be showcasing on your special day and take care to remedy your drier areas, like the elbows, knees and feet. I tried an awesome exfoliating foot mask from Grace & Stella that gave me the softest feet of my life, so check it out!
