One thing I try to do on my down time is to clean up and declutter items in my home that I promised myself I would deal with “later.”
The clothes that haven’t fit for the last five years, old books, knick-knacks, toys, cords and cables, obsolete electronics – pretty much anything that I know in my heart I won’t be using but have put aside just in case I change my mind.
Keeping a tidy, uncluttered home – believe it or not – can be a mental health boost as well. How many times have you looked at a messy closet or sloppy bedroom and gotten upset with yourself for leaving it that way? Or you weren’t able to find something that you know you still have but have stuffed away somewhere?
So let’s start planning that next Marie Kondo clean-up within the areas of your home that probably need some tidying up. I share some tips on how to better organize the busiest spaces with a little help from some Amazon must-have storage items.

Your bedroom should be your sanctuary, so tripping over old clothes, shoe boxes or bedtime books will drive you bonkers each day. Area that need regular review, decluttering and organizing include:

-closets
Decluttering your bedroom of old decor items that take up space and collect dust will give your room a cleaner look. Look into your bedside tables and toss old books, magazines, expired hand creams and anything that got shoved in there and forgotten about.
Get into those clothing drawers and closets and set aside clothing for donation that you know in your heart you don’t ever wear or cannot fit into – why keep clothes that take up space but never get worn when someone else can enjoy them? Donate old handbags and accessories that you never use and use the tips below to better organize the stuff you do want to keep.

Some of the items I’ve used in my bedroom and closet to keep things tidy and organized are storage bins/baskets, expandable or honeycomb drawer organizers, acrylic drawer organizers, and hanging/over the door organizers.
These storage items ensure every item that stays behind has its proper place for when I need it. If you have some room under the bed, you can use small boxes or under the bed storage to keep your books, slippers, linens and other odds and ends that you want to keep in your bedroom but don’t have space for in your other furniture or closet.
Lastly, add some felt-covered hangers to your closet; they keep clothes from slipping off the edges and are super thin to maximize hanging space!

The kitchen is a hornets nest for potential mess and clutter. The places you need to organize and declutter in the kitchen can include:

Again, doing a sweep of your drawers, cupboards and pantry to remove items you haven’t used and honestly won’t use in the future is a first major step in the declutter process.
Remove unnecessary items from your countertops to instantly make them look cleaner and make evening counter wipe-downs easier. Keep your cutlery and kitchen tools organized with an expandable bamboo cutlery organizer drawer organizer. Dress up your knife set with a fabulous knife block for a clean, minimal look and keep only the utensils you actually use in your kitchen drawers or in a utensil organizer.
Update your pantry with storage bins and dispensers and take advantage of any vertical space you have in there with shelf risers or wall mounted storage to double your storage space. Dig into your cupboards and drawers to remove unused pots, pans, Tupperware and appliances or grab a few pot/pan racks or risers to better stack these items.

Have a ton of herbs and spices stored haphazardly? Consider a glorious pull-out spice rack! Lastly, give your fridge a good deep clean and consider getting clear, acrylic storage bins to store your food and make things easier to stack and organize in that space while keeping things more fresh.

Both the insides and countertops of vanities within the bathroom are easy spots for excess clutter and disorganization. Review your towel situation and ensure they are folded to maximize space and remain neatly piled or hung.
Review all your hygiene and beauty products to remove old/unused items and if you’re a skin care hoarder like myself, organize the products you use regularly in containers and place everything else in a clear storage bin in your closet to instantly declutter excess products.

If you’ve been working from home, maybe your office has gotten a little cluttered and messy the last couple years? Places you need to declutter in your office an include:

Office space tends to get cluttered with papers, envelopes, reports and more paper-based items that get dropped off for later filing (which usually never happens). Spend time going through all of your paper clutter inside and outside of your office drawers to determine which items can be shredded, recycled or filed for later viewing.
Tip: Consider scanning your documents to reduce the amount of paper copies you keep and free up more storage space. I use a 1000 gigabyte (1TB) USB drive to store my documents and pictures.

Things to Declutter in the Family/Living Room
The family room is a busy area that tends to pick up a number of unnecessary items over time. Be sure to hide all the tv/device cords and charging cables in a cable management box. A decorative box for you coffee table can also be a great way to hide remote controls that can dampen your family room decor.
Grab some large baskets to store your toys, blankets, slippers, games and more to keep the couch and floors clear. Consider adding a storage ottoman or footrest to hold blankets, seasonal pillows, magazines and more out of sight.
A stylish cabinet can be a great place to store games out of sight, while a magazine holder can store books, papers and magazines.
