How To Whiten Your Teeth At Home With Smile Brilliant

The Smile Brilliant Teeth Whitening Process

Getting Custom Fitted For My Whitening Trays

Smile Brilliant allows you to easily whiten your teeth at home by providing you with custom-fitted whitening trays. These custom fitted trays ensure that the whitening gel evenly covers each tooth, whether your teeth are straight or not.

Each Smile Brilliant kit comes with two impression trays (pictured below) and three sets of impression material (base + catalyst) that are mixed together and applied to the trays to make the impression.

I was a little nervous about making my dental impressions – what if I screwed them up? Luckily they come with great instructions, as well as an extra set of impression material, which made me a little less anxious.

The impressions were actually quite easy to do; after mixing the base and catalyst impression materials together (both are the consistency of Play Doh), I placed the doughy mixture into the impression tray and gently pressed the tray into my teeth (see below).

Once the top and bottom impressions were done, I sealed them in the mailing envelope included in the kit and shipped them out. My custom-fitted trays were mailed back to me within a couple weeks and fit like a glove. Time to start whitening!

 

The Whitening Process

Now to the exciting part! Removing tough stains takes time – they accumulated on my teeth over a number of years and a bajillion cups of coffee, so I knew they weren’t going to come out overnight. Most stains require 7-14 treatments to be fully removed; I opted for 7 treatments before I felt that my teeth were looking white enough to go on a smiling spree.

I completed my whitening sessions before bed – which is recommended and the only time I have in the day to myself. To whiten, I opened the plastic syringe of whitening gel and applied the gel along the front, inside of my whitening trays. After applying the gel, I slipped on my custom-fitted trays and waited 45 minutes to one hour before rinsing off the gel (you can wear the whitening gel anywhere from 45 minutes up to 3 hours).

The whitening gel initially had a cooling sensation on my teeth – nothing painful though – and I noticed it more on my top teeth than on the bottom ones. Based on your own tooth sensitivity, you may feel more or less of a sensation during the treatment. Whitening treatments lasting longer than 45 minutes can cause more sensitivity.

Although I didn’t notice any sensitivity after my whitening treatments, I did apply the desensitizing gel after the first two treatments (for testing purposes). I didn’t use the gel for the rest of my treatments, since I didn’t experience any sensitivity afterwards.

 

Results?

I’m so happy with the results of my Smile Brilliant at-home whitening treatments! Not only are my teeth whiter now, but I also find them more evenly coloured and less blotchy; prior to the treatment, my teeth had spots that were yellower than others. I actually can’t remember a time when my teeth looked as white as they do now.
