La Roche-Posay Anthelios Ultra-Fluid Mineral Sunscreen

La Roche-Posay is a French skin care brand known for formulating great products with sensitive skin types in mind. While I don’t suffer from skin sensitivity, I really wanted to try out their Anthelios Mineral Sunscreen range, as it’s right up there with some of the best mineral sunscreens around.

And because I love a lightweight sunscreen in the summer months (who doesn’t?) I opted for the Anthelios Ultra-Light Lotion with SPF60.

What Is Mineral Sunscreen?

Mineral sunscreens are made up of two ingredients: titanium dioxide and zinc oxide.

These ingredients work by deflecting or scattering harmful UV rays from the sun away from your skin, like a mirror. Mineral sunscreens rock because they begin protecting your skin immediately once they’re applied and have little to no risk of skin irritation, unlike their chemical sunscreen counterparts.

On the downside though, some mineral sunscreens can leave a visible white cast on the skin and tend to be thicker and heavier than chemical SPFs. But not to worry – this doesn’t mean you can’t find a lightweight, non-white mineral sunscreen; it just means you need to pick the right mineral sunscreen.

In comparison, chemical sunscreens sink into the skin and absorb UV rays, which are then converted into heat. These sunscreens use varying combinations of oxybenzone, avobenzone, octisalate, octocrylene, homosalate and octinoxate as active ingredients.

La Roche-Posay Anthelios Ultra-Fluid Mineral Sunscreen Ingredients + Benefits

Anthelios Ultra-Fluid mineral sunscreen is made with 11% Titanium Dioxide and provides broad-spectrum UV protection – that means it protects skin from both UVA and UVB rays, which is an SPF must.

Why do you need to block both UVA and UVB rays? Because:

– UVB rays are responsible for burning your skin and leaving you looking like a freshly boiled lobster; they can also cause skin cancer and premature aging

– UVA rays penetrate more deeply into the skin and are responsible for causing premature aging and wrinkles

Conclusion: both UVA and UVB rays suck! So always protect your skin from both using a broad-spectrum sunscreen.

How Anthelios Ultra-Fluid Works For Me

Anthelios Ultra-Fluid spreads easily onto the skin and feels a touch greasy at first, although it quickly begins to absorb into the skin and takes that greasy feeling with it.

It doesn’t sting my eyes and I don’t notice any white cast left behind either (although I’m quite pale, if you have darker skin, do a patch test before purchasing).

If you’re really worried about the white cast situation, you can try the tinted formula from the brand that is skin-tone coloured.

Check out the video below to see its texture and how it absorbs without any whiteness on pale skin:

Anthelios Ultra-Fluid has a slight scent of SPF, but that fades once it begins to absorb and it has no other added fragrances.

I apply Anthelios Ultra-Fluid to my face, neck and ears each morning after completing my normal skin care routine and it works under makeup quite well.

The main issue I have with this mineral sunscreen is if I apply my foundation on top of it using a brush and buff a bit too aggressively, it can cause the sunscreen to pill a touch.

I have this issue more so when I apply Anthelios on top of certain primers, so a bit of testing is required if you like to apply a primer on top of it.

Overall, the La Roche-Posay Anthelios Ultra-Fluid is an AWESOME mineral sunscreen and I’d recommend it to anyone looking for a mineral sunscreen.
