My Multi-Foundation Routine For The Perfect Base

If you’ve found your Holy Grail foundation that works for you through every type of weather condition and skin imperfection while providing just the amount of coverage you want, then congrats! You have done the impossible and should stock up on that foundation for life and I’m officially jealous.

However, most of us know all too well that not every foundation works well on all parts of our faces. Some foundations sit well in our pores but emphasize dryness. Others look great on most of our face but cake up or disappear around the nose or chin – you get my drift.

I’ve spent a lot of time and money hunting down the “perfect” foundation – one that looks great on every little part of my face no matter what’s going on, but is this a realistic goal?

What Is Multi-Base Foundation?

My solution to this ongoing foundation conundrum came to me recently when pulling out my Clinique Beyond Perfecting Foundation & Concealer (review).

Now, I loved the coverage and pore filling abilities of Beyond Perfecting, but found it looked a bit heavy on the outer, less oily areas of my face and my more textured areas (upper lip and chin).

For this reason, I packed Beyond Perfecting away in favour of more lightweight foundations (L’Oreal Pro-Glow (review), Maybelline Fit Me Hydrate+Smooth (review) and Fit Me Matte Poreless).

I also love all makeup and hate seeing products not being used – it breaks my heart! – so I pulled Beyond Perfecting out of my not-in-use box and decided to give it another go.

And then, it suddenly came to me…why can’t I just apply this where I find it works best? So that’s what I did and my idea for a multi-foundation routine started.

I now apply my more lightweight foundations all over my face and then add just a couple dabs of the Clinique Beyond perfecting on my cheeks, or anywhere else I want a bit more coverage. Bam! The perfect base. So simple.

Another way you can multi-base with your foundations? Mix a couple of them together to get just the right shade, finish or coverage you’re looking for.

Not only can using more than one foundation give you a better base, but it gives you the chance to use up foundations that didn’t 100% work out for you on their own and are wasting away in your rarely opened drawer for lost foundations.
