Thayers Witch Hazel Rose Petal Toner Makes The Best Setting Spray

Thayers Alcohol-Free Rose Petal Witch Hazel Toner was something I grabbed during one of my Amazon beauty hauls last summer.

While watching one of Melissa Alatorre’s makeup tutorials, she mentioned that she loved using rose petal toner as a setting spray to help her setting powder melt into her foundation and give her skin an all over glow, so I just had to try it!

To test out her tip, when my MAC Fix+ finally finished, I poured my Thayers rose petal toner into the empty bottle and started testing it out on my oh so dry skin. Best-decision-ever!

For anyone who read my review of the Maybelline Fit Me Hydrate+Smooth Foundation, you’ll remember that I had to use a lot of setting spray to make that foundation work (it was so dry and matte on me!). Well…Thayers Rose Petal Witch Hazel Toner was the setting spray I was referring to at the time.

How I Use Thayers Rose Petal Toner

Even now that some of my natural oils have started to come back, I still reach for this Thayers toner to set my face. I love to spritz it on after I’ve set my foundation with powder and press it into my skin with my damp makeup sponge. Not only does this rose petal toner help my foundation and powder “become one” for a more natural finish, but it also helps the blush, bronzer and highlight that I apply on top of it last longer.

After completing my makeup, I like to give myself another spritz to finish off the look.

What I really love about this toner as a setting spray is that if you’re looking to getting a more dewy finish, all you have to do is spray on a bit more and your skin will have a beautiful glowing look.

This toner/setting spray was my makeup saviour on my super dry days. It’s also great for enhancing the look of shimmery eye shadows or highlighters.

If I need extra staying power, I’ll follow up with a few pumps of the Wet n’ Wild Photo Focus Setting Spray. If you have oily skin, a few spritzes should be enough for you, while dry/normal skin types can add a little more as needed. For $20, you get a 355mL (12oz.) bottle that will last and it also makes a great hydrating toner to apply to cleansed skin.

The only issue? Thayers Rose Petal Witch Hazel toner smells of roses (obviously), so if floral scents make your nose cry, this could be a deal breaker. To give you an idea, the smell of this toner is what I imagine being slapped in the face with a bouquet of roses would smell like. However, it gives my skin so much glow and life that I force myself to ignore the fragrance, because pain is beauty.
