The Ordinary Caffeine Solution 5% + EGCG Is My Go-To Eye De-Puffing Serum

Do you bother using an eye cream?

There’s a long-standing debate out there in the skin care community as to whether or not eye cream should be a must-have step in your skin care routine. However, I’m not here to wade into this argument (yet), but I do want to share with you something in my morning routine that has been helping my tired eyes look more bright, less puffy and more refreshed each morning.

The Ordinary Caffeine Solution is a skin care purchase I made early last year, and this $7 serum is still in my routine a year later for good reason; it seriously de-puffs the puffy pillows I get under my eyes each morning and helps me look a little less haggard with just one drop

How Do The Ingredients In The Ordinary Caffeine Solution Work?

Caffeine

Caffeine applied topically can help reduce the appearance of dark circles and puffy eyes if they are caused by leaky blood vessels.

If you have puffy eyes due to fat deposits under the eyes, caffeine or any other topical won’t do much for you, sorry!

Caffeine also has powerful antioxidant properties, meaning it fights free radicals while preventing UV damage and premature wrinkles.

Caffeine can be irritating, so if you have sensitive skin, be aware that you could face some irritation from this product.

EGCG

EGCG is short for Epigallocatechin Gallatyl Glucoside, which I’ve never heard of, but apparently comes from green tea leaves.

It’s a fab ingredient to have in your eye serum because it fights free radicals, has anti-inflammatory properties to soothe inflammation and can also protect skin from sun damage – yes!

This ingredient is sensitive to light, which is why this serum comes in a UV protected glass bottle.

Hyaluronic Acid

Ok, this ingredient I’m more familiar with and you probably are too. Hyaluronic acid is like a moisture magnet that helps retain moisture within the skin all day to keep skin plump and moisturized.

It’s a must for dry or dehydrated skin and is a God send for fine lines and wrinkles because its moisture retention abilities help plump and fill in lines around that make you look older and more tired – like those annoying crow’s feet you hate so much.

What’s Not In It?

This serum is free from alcohol, silicone, oil, nuts, gluten and is vegan and cruelty free.

How I Use The Ordinary Caffeine Solution

I apply one drop of this lightweight serum each morning around my eyes after cleansing, exfoliating and applying my essence and serum.

It’s texture is slightly thicker than water and its brown-tinted liquid has no fragrance. I like to rub it between my two ring fingers and gently spread it around my entire eye area.

While this serum contains hyaluronic acid, I still apply my Mizon Snail Eye Repair cream on top for moisture – this serum alone is NOT enough to moisturize the eye area.

How The Ordinary Caffeine Solution Works For Me

I really enjoy this serum!

The Ordinary Caffeine Solution definitely helps reduce the puffiness I get under my eyes from lack of sleep and I’ve also noticed the darkness I get on the inner corners of my eyes has reduced as well.

If my eyes are extra puffy in the morning, I’ll use my pulsing massager after applying the Caffeine Solution for some extra de-puffing action.

The serum absorbs easily into the skin and doesn’t interfere with any of the products I apply on top and isn’t greasy or heavy in any way.
