Avon Anew Neutralize Anti-Pollution Charcoal Mask Stick – $19.99CAD (sale price)

I love the idea of mask sticks for easy-to-apply skin care and the Anew Neutralize Anti-Pollution Charcoal Mask Stick is the first “stick” mask to make it into my skin care collection. This mask stick is made with charcoal and kaolin clay to absorb oil and impurities to help prevent clogged pores and blemishes.

Unlike typical clay-based masks, which tend to have a thick consistency, the lightweight formula of the Anti-Pollution Charcoal stick glides onto the skin smoothly, applying a thin, cooling layer as it goes. It doesn’t give you that “tight” feeling on the skin as it dries – I actually forget I’m wearing it! – and it doesn’t leave my skin feeling overly dry after I rinse it off, although I wouldn’t recommend it for use more than a couple times a week.

Tip: Avon recommends this mask be left on for 10 minutes. If you have drier skin, I would rinse it off sooner to avoid getting too dry.

The charcoal mask stick is a great option if you’re looking to remove excess oil and gunk from your pores and the light fruity scent is an added treat, assuming you’re not sensitive to fragrance in your skin care.

Avon Anew Neutralize Anti-Pollution Serum – $29.99CAD (on sale)

The Anew Neutralize Anti-Pollution Serum is formulated to protect and repair skin and is suited to all skin types. It also promises to block damaging pollutants that can cause signs of premature aging through plant extracts from herbs and roots, while working to prevent moisture loss.

The anti-pollution serum has a fun, fruity scent (similar to the charcoal stick) and a lightweight, runny texture. It dispenses from the tube as a black serum, but turns clear once it’s massaged into the skin and can be applied morning and/or night.

While I wasn’t able to use this serum for too long, I really enjoyed it! The texture spreads nicely onto the skin, absorbs well and left my skin soft, glowing and hydrated. It didn’t interfere or pill when I applied the rest of my skin care products on top of it either and worked well under my makeup.

Unfortunately, something in my skin care rotation at the time gave me a bad reaction, so I actually stopped using this serum as a result while I let things clear up, just in case this was the culprit.

I’m still not sure if this serum or something else was to blame, but I plan to try it out again after my brother’s wedding to see if I get a similar reaction – fingers and toes crossed it isn’t to blame! I’d love to be able to keep it in my skin care routine throughout the fall/winter for some extra glow.

Avon Anew Neutralize Anti-Pollution Charcoal Pore Strips – $9.99CAD (on sale)

While I’m not a fan of nose strips for removing oil and blackheads, I did give these Anew Anti-Pollution charcoal pore strips a go.

Similar to the charcoal stick mask, these pores strips are made with charcoal and kaolin clay to suck out dirt, oil and blackheads.

To apply, the black part of the strip should be applied and smoothed onto clean, dampened skin (on your nose) and removed after 15-20 minutes when it’s fully dry (which seems like forever, I only waited about 10 minutes for my strip to dry – I have no patience!).

I’m glad to report that these pore strips didn’t totally rip off all my skin like some other strips do (which can lead to more oil and bacteria entering your pores, I might add). If you’re looking for a way to rip out some blackheads before bed, these strips will definitely satisfy this need.
