Drunk Elephant Beste No.9 Jelly Cleanser & Protini Polypeptide Cream

As a part of my March order from Sephora, I got some birthday sample sizes of the Drunk Elephant Beste No.9 Jelly Cleanser and the Protini Polypeptide Cream – happy birthday to me! I’ve been a drooling admirer of this pricey skin care brand for a while, so this was a welcome gift.

Drunk Elephant skin care products are free of the “suspicious 6” ingredients (essential oils, alcohol, SLS, silicones, fragrances/dyes, chemical screens) and are formulated to ensure optimal pH levels of the skin. Their products are also vegan, gluten-free, cruelty-free.

Drunk Elephant Beste No.9 Jelly Cleanser (sample size)

What’s It Do? The No.9 Jelly Cleanser is supposed to remove all traces of makeup, oil and daily grime from your face. It’s free of sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS) and is supposed to be gentle enough for use on all skin types.

Beste No. 9 is formulated with a pH level of 5.5, which the brand claims is ideal for gently cleansing the skin without stripping it of moisture.

How Does It Work? Beste No.9 is a clear gel that transforms into a gentle foam when mixed with water. It does what it says – gently rinses away dirt and oil without any dryness or residue left behind.

Would I buy the full size? No – as much as I like this cleanser, I have other SLS-free foaming cleansers that I enjoy just as much, or more, that are cheaper than this one (like the Cosrx Low pH Good Morning Cleanser or the Thursday Plantation Tea Tree Oil Face Wash).

Drunk Elephant Protini Polypeptide Cream

What It Is: This protein moisturizer combines signal peptides, growth factors, supportive amino acids and pygmy waterlily (anti-oxidants) to “immediately” improve the appearance of skin’s tone, texture and firmness.

Full of proteins and nutrients, Protini Polypeptide is supposed to replenish/nourish the skin and is formulated at the “ideal” pH level of 4.0, according to Drunk Elephant.

Does It Work? I love the texture of this cream – it’s a lovely gel/cream formulation that feels extremely lightweight on the skin. It absorbs well with no greasiness – perfect for oily skin! – and generally feels luxurious and mousse-like (which I would expect from a $60 moisturizer).

I can’t say that Protini Polypeptide “immediately” improved the look of my skin, but it does provide great hydration and overall suppleness to my tired skin.

Would I buy the full size? Yes – but I really want to try the Lala Retro Whipped Cream first – it’s been on my wish list forever!
