What’s Been On My Face Lately | Summer Skin Care Update

I’ve grabbed quite a few new skin care items over that last several months that I really haven’t kept you updated on; this is a damn shame, because most of them have been great additions to my summer skin care routine.

  1. HYDRALURON MOISTURIZING JELLY – INDEED LABORATORIES

I tried the original Hydraluron serum based on the advice of skin care guru Caroline Hirons several years ago when I started up my crusade for healthier skin.

The original serum had a very thick consistency and I wasn’t truly in love with it, but decided to give the fun-sounding Hydraluron Moisture Jelly a try this time around – because who can resist jelly?

The Hydraluron Moisturizing Jelly is filled with hyaluronic acid to fight “dullness, dehydration, dryness and signs of premature aging by providing the skin with instant and long lasting hydration.”

I love the light gel texture of this clear jelly along with the fun pump dispenser.

Even better, the hyaluronic acid content keeps my skin plump and hydrated all day with a good moisturizer applied on top (I apply the jelly like I would a serum in my skin care routine – it doesn’t hydrate enough on its own so you need to moisturize!).

2. GLOW2OH DARK SPOT TONER – OLE HENRIKSEN

I received the Glow2Oh Dark Spot Toner free from Influenster for testing purposes and really enjoy it.

It has a lovely lemon scent and is made with alph-hydroxy acids glycolic and lactic acid to exfoliate skin and reduce the look of dark spots, fine lines and dullness with consistent use.

Witch Hazel acts as a natural astringent and lemon, sugar cane, licorice root, chamomile, and sandalwood extracts help to soothe the skin.

While I don’t have any dark spots to work on, I do enjoy the exfoliating and smoothing effects of this toner and feel like it’s on par with my beloved Cosrx exfoliating toners, my Lotion P50T or my Glycolic Acid toner from The Ordinary.

3. RESTRUCTIV RETINOL – JOUVIANCE  (Now called 3D ACTION GLOBAL ANTI-AGING CREAM)

I actually entered the drugstore intending to buy the Indeed Labs Retinol Reface when the pushy saleswoman insisted that I try this retinol cream from Jouviance instead.

The Jouviance Restructiv Retinol cream promises to reduce fine lines and wrinkles, dullness and dark spots with a slow-release retinol, while ceramides and hyaluronic acid plump and nourish the skin.

It also includes Matrixyl, which is pretty much botox in a bottle, in my opinion.

Restructiv Retinol is formulated for even sensitive skin types and was super gentle on me; it didn’t cause any dryness or irritation and I enjoyed applying it to my eye area as well without any issues.

I quickly noticed that my skin looked smoother and more radiant after using this cream regularly and I’m really happy with it!

There’s a new retinol in my collection. @Jouviance Restructiv Retinol is formulated with retinol, peptides and hyaluronic acid to make skin plump and radiant. The formula boasts a slow release of retinol that penetrates deeper into the skin with less irritation. I’ll be reviewing this one in a few weeks on the blog! . . . . . . #skincare #skincareroutine #skin #skincareblogger #skincareobsessed #loveyourskin #skincarecommunity #skincarediary #bblogger #bbloggers #bbloggersca #beautytips #skincareadvice #skincarejunkie #skincaretips #beautycare #beautyguru #beautyblog #skincarelover #skincareproducts #beautyjunkie #beautyproduct #canadianblogger #bloggerlife #bloggerstyle #30plusblogs #torontoblogger #skincaregoals #retinol #antiaging

4. CUCUMBER GEL MASK – PETER THOMAS ROTH

I won a giveaway on Instagram a month ago and a sample of this PTR Cucumber Gel Mask was included in my winnings.

This emerald green mask is supposed to refresh, soothe and moisturize skin with the help of botanical extracts of cucumber, papaya, chamomile, pineapple, sugar maple, sugarcane, orange, lemon, bilberry and aloe.

It has a lovely gel texture that feels really calming on the skin, but unfortunately I don’t feel like it does much for me in terms of hydration.

I’ve been using it instead as a calming/protective mask in the shower to keep my skin from drying out in there due to the steamy environment. I’m glad I got a sample of this first because if I bought the full size I’d be disappointed!

5. RAPID WRINKLE REPAIR EYE CREAM WITH RETINOL SA – NEUTROGENA

I’ve wanted to try a targeted eye cream with retinol in it for a while now and decided to start off my trials with Rapid Wrinkle Repair Anti-Wrinkle Eye cream from Neutrogena.

It promises to reduce fine lines and crow’s feet around the eyes with retinol and promises visible results in just 1 week.

The formula of this eye cream is super lightweight, absorbs well and I love that the tiniest amount goes a long way.

So far, I’ve experienced zero irritation or dryness with this retinol formula and I do believe it has tightened up my eye area a bit in a relatively short period of time.

6. AHA 30% + BHA 2% PEELING SOLUTION – THE ORDINARY

I reviewed this skin care gem on the blog recently hereso I won’t go into all the details about it at the moment, except to say that The Ordinary’s AHA+BHA Peeling Solution has made my pores significantly shrink, given me baby soft skin and improved my overall complexion tenfold with only a couple months of use and only applying it once or twice a week.

Before you snatch it up, please read my post on it, since it’s strong stuff and not suited for everyone.

7. NATURAL MOISTURIZING FACTORS + HA – THE ORDINARY

Another little lovely from The Ordinary, Natural Moisturizing Factors + HA contains 11 amino acids, phospholipids, alpha/beta/gamma fatty acids, triglycerides, glycerin, ceramide precursors, urea and hyaluronic acid to instantly moisturizer and protect skin.

Texture wise, it’s a thick, white cream that I expected to be pretty heavy and balmy on the skin – but it’s anything but; this stuff melts into the skin so well that it actually feels like you didn’t even put anything on, making it a great hydrator for oily skin or when the weather gets hot and humid.

Quite simply, it’s a fragrance-free, no-frills moisturizer that does the job.

I bought the smaller 30mL size, but would easily grab the larger size the next time around.

8.  7 DAY SCRUB CREAM – CLINIQUE

Another Instagram giveaway item I won!

The Clinique 7 Day Scrub Cream has been around for ages and promises to refine skin texture with its gentle silica polishing beads.

This scrub is indeed gentle and it isn’t as strong as most scrubs, since the ratio of cream to beads is pretty high on the cream side.

It’s not my favourite scrub, but it does the job.

What skin care products are on you face this summer, hmmm?
