Glossier Haul ft. Brow Flick, Boy Brow + Cloud Paint

A few years ago when Glossier was up and coming and on every beauty blogger/vlogger radar, I really wanted to try the brand. I was more intrigued by Glossier’s skin care products at the time, but their makeup always garnered rave reviews too. Despite the buzz, it took me forever to actually order anything due to their slightly higher prices – I’m a budget beauty lover at heart you know!

But I eventually pulled the trigger when I saw the Glossier Brow Flick eyebrow pen in action on Instagram…#instagrammademebuyit…after seeing the “microblading” effects of the Brow Flick in action (I’ll post a video below so you can see my instant attraction), I grabbed one for myself and added on the Boy Brow pomade and a Cloud Paint blush for some free shipping action and finally gave Glossier a try….

Glossier Brow Flick Eye Brow Pen in “Brown”

Never thought I’d be one for a brow pen, but when I saw one of my fave YouTubers, Andreea Ali demonstrating its microblading effects on her Instagram account, I ordered the Brow Flick for myself immediately.

But does it work?

Brow Flick’s brush-tip detailing pen gives your brows more brow ✍️ @aliandreeamakeup ✍️ Define the arch, extend the tail, and add depth to sparse areas ✨

Upon opening the Brown Flick pen, I found it to be quite wet and difficult to use. Luckily, it seemed to dry out a bit after a week or so, which helped a lot with application.

Tip: Be sure to store your eyebrow and eyeliner pens with the marker side down to keep the pen moist and ready to use.

What don’t I like about Brow Flick?

Here’s the exhaustive list…The pigment of Brow Flick varies with how much pressure you apply; apply it lightly and the pigment will be soft and light. Apply too much pressure and the pigment gets much darker and the line will be thicker.

I also wish the pigment of the brown was a touch lighter, as it can appear almost brown-black with added pressure.

Brow Flick also sets/dries down quite quickly, making it difficult to correct any errors you’ve made unless you fix it immediately. Applying it in a microbladed/hair-stroke fashion also takes time and skill – you have to have a very light hand and use the very tip of the pen, or lay the pen on its side to get thin, hair-like strokes that aren’t too thick or heavy.

Again, light pressure is key, which can be tough, especially if you are not an eyebrow artist (*raises hand*).

Given the attention to detail and the need for a light hand, Brow Flick takes a lot longer to apply then my ABH Dipbrow Pomade (although I’ve been getting better and faster with practice).

While I find Brow Flick very easy to apply evenly on the outer portions of my brow, the inner portion of my brow (where the hairs grow straight up) is much more difficult. It’s hard for me to angle the brush straight up and still get a light application, which often means I’ll get darker, blotchy pigments in that area. The tip of the pen has also dulled quite a bit over time as you can see in the pic below when compared to the tip in the Instagram video I posted above.

The pen also tends to get a bit of build-up on the tip as you apply it, which I have to remove to avoid it leaving blotchy bits in my brows. Does the Glossier Brow Flick Dry Out? Yes, I found it started to dry out after a couple months, even though I stored it bristle-side down and didn’t use it every day.

If you look closely in the after pic below, you can see that on the inner portion of my brow, there are some dark, heavy blotches that stand out from the rest of the brow where I applied to much pressure or where build up from the tip got transferred.

What do I like about Brow Flick? Despite the long list of issues included above, it is great for giving me bold, bushier looking brows, especially on the outer two-thirds of my brows where I find I can apply it more evenly.

Brow Flick makes my brows look like they filled themselves in over night, in a fairly natural way, which is a look I can’t achieve as well with my ABH Dipbrow Pomade.

You can see a before and after pic below and you can see that the inner portion of the eyebrow in the after pics looks heavy, while the outer portions come out much cleaner:

Overall, if I can learn to apply Brow Flick a bit more evenly in the first part of my brows, I think I would love it. At the moment, it is a bit of a pain in the ass though, and I do hate that it takes so much longer to apply with uneven results.

If you’re trying to get fuller-looking brows and have a lot of patience and a light hand, you might want to give the Brow Flick a go; it comes in only 3 shades: Blonde, Brown or Black. If you’re an apply-your-brows-in-a-hurry kind of brow filler, skip the Brow Flick.

Glossier Boy Brow in “Brown”

Glossier was bundling the Boy Brow and Brow Flick at a lower price and I thought – what the heck, let’s try both – so I got to try this blogger favourite brow wand as well.

Boy Brow is a grooming pomade that helps thicken, define and hold your brow hair in place. It comes in 3 shades, as per the Brow Flick, or a clear option if you want all hold but no tint.

I’m not a fan of how much product the wand picks up – I have to wipe off the excess – but otherwise, Boy Brow performs well and does what it says. I often apply it over the Brow Flick for extra hold, but if you prefer a natural look you can apply it to bare brows for some extra oomph.

As much as I enjoy it though, I don’t think I’d repurchase. I feel like $20 is a lot for a brow pomade, especially when I can get the Maybelline Brow Drama Sculpting Eyebrow Mascara for $8 that works just as well or the Essence Make Me Brow Eyebrow Gel Mascara for $4.

Glossier Cloud Paint in “Puff”

I needed a few extra dollars in my cart to qualify for free shipping, so I added the lightest shade of Glossier Cloud Paint to my order. Given my renewed love for cream blushes and all the great buzz around this product, I hoped we’d get along well.

Glossier Cloud Paint cream-gel blushes come in 6 shades and are meant to be applied to your cheeks with your fingers for easy application. The “pillowy” formula is quite pigmented, matte and buildable and I can vouch that the colour lasts all day without caking up or looking greasy.

I’m not a fan of the tube packaging though, which makes it very easy to pump out too much product. The strong pigmentation means you only need the tiniest amount and I hate wasting product given that this blusher costs $22 a tube.

While I have applied Puff with my fingers (I found it goes on a bit unevenly this way), the easiest way for me to put it on is to spread a small amount on the back of my hand and then use my e.l.f. small stipple brush to pick up the cream and stipple it onto my cheeks. Once applied, Puff is quite stunning!
