A Few Makeup Must Haves

It’s been a long while since I shared my makeup favourites…too long in fact. But I have quite a few products that have been working out quite well for me during the last few months and are deserving of some kudos and shout outs after the end of the long, hot summer.

Revlon Colorstay Whipped Foundation

It’s with mixed feelings that I include the now discontinued Revlon Whipped Foundation. This foundation sat in my drawer for a couple years as my skin fought through redness and dry, flaky patches. It didn’t get on well with me at the time and collected quite a bit of dust.

Now that my skin has settled down a bit, I decided to re-try this foundation with my Real Techniques foundation brush and the combination was simply magical. The thick, medium coverage formula blended out easily and gave my skin that “your skin but 1000 times better look” that everyone is chasing. When mixed with my natural oils, my skin literally glows in this foundation and it even withstood the hot, humid summer weather on me.

I love it even more than my It Cosmetics CC Cream and really need to find a great dupe, as Revlon decided to put a bullet in my heart and discontinued this product. There are some shades still floating around on Amazon and other beauty sites, so if you see this foundation in “Buff” let me know and I will buy the entire inventory.

Covergirl Ready, Set, Gorgeous Concealer

I mentioned this Covergirl concealer in my 8 ways to fake awake post and I couldn’t exclude it from my makeup favourites round up by any means. This concealer provides medium coverage in a creamy, blendable formula that doesn’t bring out my fine lines or dry out my under-eye.

I love blending it out with my ring finger and it works exceptionally well on me when paired with the Revlon Colorstay Whipped foundation, which is a great creamy base.

Benefit Hoola Lite Bronzer

I actually hated this Hoola Lite bronzer when I first got it. If it’s not applied with a fluffy blush/bronzer brush it tends to look like a pale orange on me – not flattering at all. However, after changing up my bronzer technique and giving it a second chance, I began to like it.

The blended out bronzer provides a hint of natural warmth on my pale skin that isn’t muddy looking and the powder itself is super fine with a light fragrance. Not a fan of the box packaging, but otherwise it gets a thumbs up.

Anastasia Beverly Hills Dipbrow Pomade

I’ve had this brow pomade in my makeup collection for what seems like forever and haven’t really spoken about it before on the blog, which is a shame because I truly enjoy using it.

Dip brow is super easy to apply using the ABH #7B brow brush or the Kat Von D #70 brow brush. I’m able to create light brush strokes with it or do a quick fill, depending on how much time I and it stays put all day.

Wet N’ Wild MegaGlo Highlighter

Definitely one of my favourite highlighters, this one in “Small Blossom Glow” gives the skin a gorgeous peach-tinted wet shimmer look and isn’t chunky or heavy in any way.

I just noticed that Wet N’ Wild has a 4-shade highlighting palette that’s just been released on their website and I think I really need it in my life ASAP.

It Cosmetics Your Skin But Better CC+ Cream SPF50

I reviewed this on the blog here and instantly loved this foundation. It blends easily and doesn’t accentuate fine lines or pores – perfect for textured or mature skin.

It Cosmetics CC+ Cream provides medium, buildable coverage that lasts all day without caking or transferring and includes ingredients that are beneficial to your skin as well.

Makeup Revolution Cream Blush Palette

I raved about and swatched this cream blush palette here and it’s still the blush I reach for the most. It’s well pigmented, blends easily and lasts all day with a natural matte finish that never gets greasy or cakey. It doesn’t bring out texture or fine lines either.

I found applying this blush with my e.l.f. Cosmetics small stipple brush worked the best. I use this brush to stipple on the colour where I want it and then lightly stipple/swirl the brush around to blend it out.

Becca Cosmetics Skin Love Brighten Blur Primer

I got two small samples of this Becca Skin Love primer with my Sephora order and I really enjoyed them this summer. This primer helps to blur the look of pores and also helped keep my oils in check during the hot summer when I was super greasy.

I didn’t find this primer to have any brightening effects, but if you’re looking to smooth and blur your skin, it’s a great makeup must have!

NYX Pore Filler Primer

I bought this Pore Filler primer a long while ago and hadn’t used it in a while. However, after reaching for it again and applying it properly (that is, lightly pressing the primer into my porous areas and not massaging it into my skin) I was dazzled by how well it filled my deeper pores.
