Vichy Skin Care Review

Vichy has been on my must-try list of skin care brands for a while now and I finally pulled the trigger and made an order. French skin care is known for being luxurious and effective, so I was curious how Vichy skin care lived up to this hype!

Vichy Nutrilogie Night Moisturizer for Dry Skin, 50mL – $39.95CAD

When I made this Vichy order a couple months ago, my skin was pretty parched and dry, so I was looking for an intensive moisturizer to keep it hydrated. Vichy claims its Nutrilogie Night cream is a nourishing cream for dry to very dry skin that will not leave an oily residue on the skin.

The sphingo-lipid in this moisturizer is supposed to  regenerate the skin’s ability to rebuild its hydrolipic film, while shea butter gives skin some extra hydration. It vows that skin will go from dry to normal within 28 days of continued use based on self assessments of 41 women with dry skin.

So does it perform? Nutrilogie definitely kept my dry skin moisturized all night long. It leaves a non-greasy protective film on the skin, kind of like a sleep mask, as opposed to creams that absorb into skin.

I’m thankful that Vichy didn’t add any nasty fragrances to this cream – it doesn’t smell like much. However, it is a very firm cream and you really have to dig into it to get it out (kind of like trying to moisturize with a cold stick of butter). This firmer texture means Nutrilogie didn’t spread as easily onto my skin as I’d like in a moisturizer.

I didn’t use Nutrilogie every night (I like to rotate my creams), but it’s still a regular in my night time skin care rotation. My skin is currently normal and no longer dry, so I’d like to think Nutrilogie Night contributed to this.

Vichy Double Glow Peel Mask, 75mL – $34CAD

I remember when the Double Glow Peel Mask first hit the scene and everyone and their mailman were raving about it. I decided back then that one day I had to try it out for myself. Double Glow is made with Vitamin C, volcanic ash and alpha hydroxy acid to leave skin glowing and radiant.

It has a soft scent, which I couldn’t really put my finger on, but Vichy says is peach, white musk and black tea. Using Double Glow twice per week for 4 weeks is supposed to give you a brighter complexion, as well as smoother, more even skin. I like to apply Double Glow with a flat foundation brush to get a nice even layer on my face.

The first time I used this mask, I felt some mild tingling, but I don’t really notice it much anymore. Double Glow sinks into the skin rather quickly and leaves a bit of a grit behind. After 5 minutes, it can be massaged into the skin with water and rinsed off. My skin always feels soft and smooth after this mask, but never red or irritated.

I only use Double Glow once per week at the moment, so I can’t confirm or deny Vichy’s claims, but Double Glow is a great addition to my ever growing number of exfoliants. The products I’ve been using within the last month or so have definitely been reducing my pores and texture issues, and I believe this mask is one of the products that has been helping in this area. Double Glow is one of three masks in Vichy’s mineral mask line; I’d love to try out their Quenching Mineral Mask next.

Vichy PuretĂŠ Thermale Fresh Cleansing Gel, 200mL – $19.95CAD

I reviewed this foaming cleanser in detail here, so I won’t go into too much depth at the moment. Vichy’s PuretĂŠ Thermale cleansing gel is a sulfate-free cleanser that creates some serious foam and is gentle on skin. I personally think that oily skin types would really love this one, but it was gentle enough for my skin even on its driest days.

It doesn’t have any crazy fragrance to drive me nuts, but it can sting your eyes if you get it into them so be careful!

Vichy MinĂŠral 89 Fortifying and Hydrating Skin Booster, (sample size)

Mineral 89 is a lightweight gel made up of 89% Vichy Mineralizing Thermal Water that is loaded with 15 minerals as well as natural hyaluronic acid. Vichy claims Mineral 89 will keep skin plump and hydrated for 24 hours while strengthening the skin’s barrier function to lock in hydration.

When this little gem made the rounds in the blogosphere, I knew I’d give in and buy it eventually. Luckily, Vichy gave me a free sample of it with my order. The full size is $39.95CAD for 50mL. I like to use Mineral 89 after I cleanse, exfoliate and tone my skin, before my serum/treatments. It absorbs into the skin within seconds and leaves just a bit of tackiness behind.

While I feel that Mineral 89 helped hydrate and plump my skin, it’s very similar to the Hyaluronic Moisturizing Gel I have been using for the past year from LarachemSince the Larachem hyaluronic gel is a lot cheaper and similar in texture and results to Mineral 89, I don’t think I’d purchase the full size Mineral 89 in the future. Nonetheless, Mineral 89 is a great moisture booster for the coming winter and I’d still recommend it for those of you willing to shell out a bit extra for it.

Vichy Ideal Body Spa Shower Gel-Oil (Travel Size)

The Ideal Body Spa travel size gel was a free gift with my Vichy purchase. It has a wonderful fragrance that I can only describe as the smell of a tropical vacation and lightly foams with water to cleanse skin. It doesn’t dry out or irritate my skin and leaves me smelling like I came back from lying on the beach instead of being on a sleep deprived maternity leave. This gel is also infused with Vichy’s Mineralizing Thermal Water as well as natural oils to boost skin hydration and radiance. While I would never describe the skin on my body as “radiant”, the Ideal Body Spa Shower Gel-Oil does leave it soft afterwards. The full size shower gel is $16.95CAD for 200mL.

Vichy Ideal Body Serum Milk (sample size)

The Ideal Body Serum Milk cream was another free sample with my Vichy purchase. It has a wonderfully light scent and leaves skin hydrated with zero greasiness. The only complaint I have with this cream is that it has tiny sparkles in it, which I thought was strange. I used it on my upper arms one night after showering and didn’t expect to see my arms sparkling like a Christmas tree afterwards.

If you like to shine, this cream might be nice to apply to your collar bones or shoulders for some holiday sparkle. The full Ideal Body Serum Milk retails for $22.95CAD for 200mL.
