I’ve suffered from redness on my nose and cheeks for quite a while and it drives me nuts! It competes with my blush and is a roadblock to my goal of an even complexion.
So, I finally decided to try out one of those green colour correctors that are supposed to neutralize redness and grabbed the NYX Cosmetics HD Photogenic Green Concealer….then things got weird.

How Does Colour Correcting Work?
Colour correcting concealers are made in various shades to neutralize pigmentation you want to cover.
You can find a quick guide to colour correcting below:
- Green Concealer – For redness, acne and rosacea. …
- Orange Concealer – For people with darker skin tones who have dark circles under their eyes. …
- Pink Concealer -For people with lighter skin tones who have dark circles under their eyes. …
- Yellow Concealer – For dark purple bruises, veins, and under eye circles.
Colour correctors are meant to be applied before you apply your foundation.
You should apply just enough to neutralize the pigment you are looking to cover and then apply your foundation on top as usual.

Texture, Application and Coverage of NYX HD Green Concealer
First off, I really love how this NYX Cosmetics concealer covers redness – when thinly applied.
It has a thick, creamy texture that goes on super-green when applied too heavily and a little product goes a long way. I found this out the hard way the first morning I tried it before going to work.
I dragged the concealer wand all over my red-prone areas. I then started blending out the concealer with my damp makeup sponge, but instead of fading nicely into my skin, the green took over my face. And then….I started to panic!
The more I tried to blend it out, the greener I got!
It quickly spread to the non-red areas of my face, so I looked even more green, so much so that (no joke) I started to look like this…

Now, I have very limited time in the mornings, so totally removing my makeup was not an option!
I managed to spread out some of the concealer with a foundation brush and my fingers.
I then applied my Estee Lauder Double Wear foundation over top. There was still some of the green lightly poking through in certain spots, but at that point, I didn’t have time to fight with it.
Soooo, I looked like I had contracted the Plague that first day, but I made sure to apply this NYX Cosmetics concealer in very small dots on my red areas the next time.
This lighter application technique worked out MUCH better and blended easily into a very pale green.
Since this concealer is thick, I found using my fingers to blend it actually worked the best.
Needless to say, this concealer is high coverage!
I’ve posted a photo below of the concealer when applied heavily and blended (left) vs. applying a very small dot and blended (right).
See what I mean? A thinner application makes this stuff way less green when blended. Apply too much and….refer to picture above….
Tip: I recommend applying this concealer with your ring-finger – you use way less product and the warmth of your finger helps the concealer blend better.

Longevity/Finish
The NYX HD Green Concealer worked well under my foundation and didn’t cake up or crease throughout the day (after being properly set with powder).
I also love that it really grabs onto my skin, especially on my nose (most concealers/foundations rub off of my nose very easily).

Final Thoughts
The NYX Cosmetics HD Photogenic Concealer in Green is AWESOME at neutralizing redness.
Seriously, as a person who’s suffered from mild to moderate redness in my skin for years, I LOVE THIS STUFF!
However….make sure you apply it in light, thin layers and add more as needed. Trust me on this one…
I’m glad this worked for you, their Yellow concealer didn’t work as well for me unfortunately x

NYX is currently one of my drugstore favourites right now. Thanks for reading Laura!
I don’t have any redness so this won’t be right for me but I might try the Lavender one. Do I need to use a normal concealer on top of a colour corrector?
Shireen | Reflection of Sanity
I don’t because I find my foundation is enough if the concealer is well blended.
This looks so fascinating, I’m definitely going to try it out!

I’ve never tried a redness concealer like this because I luckily don’t suffer with too much redness and would worry about applying it all wrong. It’s good to hear you made it work for you x
Beauty with charm
Wow haha that is seriously green, I’m glad you found a way to like it though! I’ve heard that this is a good dupe of the new colour correcting urban decay concealers so I’ll definitely check it out!
