I’ve wanted to try something from Pixi Beauty for the longest time – their products just look and sound so lovely!
I could never really decide which product I wanted to start with, but when Pixi released their Retinol Tonic – the first ever retinol in toner form – that was it!
Find out why I am loving this retinol product and why it is great for retinol newbies or more sensitive skin types.

The Benefits Of Pixi Retinol Tonic
Pixi’s Retinol Tonic features a time-release encapsulated retinol, along with several antioxidants, to promote smoother, brighter and softer skin. Retinol is also know for reducing fine lines, acne and improving overall skin tone.
This retinol toner, the first of its kind, promises to gently smooth fine lines, while peptides firm skin and boost collagen production.
Does Pixi Retinol Tonic Cause Dryness or Irritation?
Retinol is typically a drying ingredient, which is why it’s usually mixed into serums and moisturizers; the emollients of the creams and lotions help to minimize the drying effect of retinol.
Instead of traditional emollients, Pixi’s Retinol Tonic uses Jasmine Flower and glycerin to hydrate, soothe and balance the skin.
The time-release encapsulated formula allows skin to better tolerate the retinol and makes this toner a gentle retinol option for newbies to this ingredient.

What’s The Difference Between Pixi Retinol And Pixi Glow Tonic?
The Pixi Retinol Tonic is an anti-aging toner made with retinol (a form of vitamin A) that boosts collagen production, brightens the skin and fights free radical damage. This tonic is great for anyone new to retinol who wants a super gentle intro to this ingredient or sensitive skin types who usually don’t tolerate retinol.
The Pixi Glow Tonic is an exfoliating liquid that removes dead skin cells from the skin’s surface using glycolic acid as the main ingredient. It can be used by all skin types looking for smoother, brighter skin.
Packaging
Similar to the other Pixi tonics, the retinol tonic is stored in a clear plastic bottle. The clear plastic lets UV light in which degrades the antioxidant ingredients inside, so always store your Pixi tonics in a cool, dark place and order them online instead of instore where they are stored on open shelves.
How To Use Pixi’s Retinol Tonic
Pixi recommends applying their Retinol Tonic after cleansing, which is when I apply mine. It has a lovely, subtle scent of lavender, which I actually really enjoy.
Specifically, I use the Retinol Tonic at night, in place of my usual exfoliating toner and pat it onto my skin using my hands (although most people prefer to apply it with a cotton pad).
Because the Retinol Tonic is so gentle, Pixi indicates that you can apply it both morning and night – just be sure to use SPF if you apply it in the morning!
Who Should Use Retinol Tonic?
Pixi Retinol Tonic is great for people who have sensitive skin or are new to retinol.
It’s also a great option for retinol veterans like myself, who are looking to add a little boost to their retinol-infused, anti-aging skin care regimen.

While the Retinol Tonic is quite gentle, retinol in stronger doses can be a bit tricky if you’ve never used it before.
I often apply this tonic when I’m planning on using a vitamin C serum at night, or when my skin has just gone through a chemical peel or dermarolling session and is a little too sensitive for a full retinol serum.
Did Retinol Tonic Work For Me?
Although I was excited to try the Retinol Tonic, I actually didn’t expect much from it. I like full-strength, punch-you-in-the-face retinols and I knew this one was much gentler than my beloved Paula’s Choice Clinical 1% Retinol Treatment.
However, once I started to use it nightly and really put it to the test, I was pleasantly surprised at how firm and smooth my skin started to look. My pores looked smaller and my skin felt softer, without any hint of irritation, dryness or redness. I’m really enjoying Pixi’s Retinol Tonic and think the larger size might be in order next time.
I love the idea of using such a gentle product on my skin that still gives me results, so I might be able to cut down on the number of products in my collection…maybe…Shop it below!
